Hey guys, so today I'm gonna be talking about how people can put labels on you for reading.
I personally, would read all day, everyday if it was possible. I also prefer to have to books in my hand, no on an e-reader and also to purchase it so it can go on the bookshelf once i've read it. So I don't really use library books.
Now I'm 15, so if someone older sees me with a book, their initial reaction is "Oh wow, look she's reading." Yet if another teenager sees me reading the first thing they say would be "Bookworm" or "Boring" or "Nerd" I genuinely don't think any of those nouns describe me, or any other reader out there. People read things online all the time, so why is reading books a bad thing?
BOOKWORM - the larva of a wood-boring beetle which feeds on the paper and glue in books. (So that one is definitely incorrect.)
BORING - not interesting; tedious ( You couldn't meet a more interesting person than someone that reads. Think of all the stories we know...)
NERD - a foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious. (Foolish? Maturity comes easier, as the characters we've followed have made mistakes. Lacks social skills? Again, the book taught us how to socialize and its easy to talk to other readers. Boringly studious? NOPE.)
Reading isn't a bad thing, we should encourage it, not make it into something that you couldn't do in public without feeling awkward.
